Wacky Halloween

This year's halloween was a particularly interesting one, because a dear friend had recently moved into the neighbourhood, and we planned to surprise the boys by trick-or-treating at his new house.

It had been incredibly hard to keep the news a secret, and then to  complicate matters further, Alex and Simon announced that they wanted to (and felt they were old enough to) trick or treat on their own!!

Luckily, we managed to convince them to do "just one street" with us before heading off on their own for a bit.  So the boys got dressed and we wrestled Sneakers into her Batman costume, and headed off to our friend's house.  

A retired math professor, our friend had prepared a costume of his own, namely a "Grim REAPtangular cuboid"!  Unfortunately, there had been a communication mix up, and he wasn't quite ready when the boys arrived at his door, so he waved them away, and they almost left the house entirely, until we convinced them to come back and see what this weirdo was up to.

"This guy kind of reminds me of (our friend)", noted Alex.

Little did he know!!!

Once the mathematician was out of the bag, so to speak, the boys excitedly dumped their loot so far onto his mantle, and then headed off with empty bags once again to trick-or-treat for a bit on their own, while the adults and dog stayed home and shelled out and chatted with our friend's new neighbours.

At the end of the night, the boys sorted, checked and organized their candy on our friend's couch before we embarked on our 5-minute walk back to the apartment.  "Cool", commented Simon, "now we can just come over any time we want to!"

The next evening, we all went to the pumpkin parade together at Mimico Square.  

​Although Trevor was able to bring the boys' pumpkins from his place, the one we had carved at our place was unfortunately missing her face, due to the fact that Sneakers had devoured it while left on the porch at our friend's last night!
