For several years, Vera served extensively with Tyndale University’s Dept of Education, co-developing and teaching courses in Classroom Management, Differentiated Instruction, the Arts and ESL for pre-service teacher candidates in the primary-junior and junior-intermediate divisions. In Sept 2011, she returned full time to the classroom with the Peel District School Board, while maintaining a busy workshop schedule provincially through ETFO, developing and facilitating teacher PD on a wide variety of topics.
In September 2016, Vera began yet another adventure, joining the Student Achievement Division at the Ministry of Education as an Education Officer with the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Branch there. After 5 years as a public servant, Vera decided to open herself to new opportunities, returning to school, where she is currently working part time towards a business certificate at Humber College in Toronto, and free-lancing as a consultant and learning facilitator. In her spare time, Vera enjoys making music, creating content, engaging in volunteer work of various sorts, and embarking on geocaching and other adventures with her partner and 17-year-old twin boys. Vera's summers are spent mainly on the north shore of PEI, Canada, in her home near Morell. SUMMARY OF SKILLS:
|
I am happy to be in your class because you teach in a way that makes things easy to understand, and because you helped me have lots of friends in our class!" |
Vera, you have a genuine warmth and desire to learn, empower, collaborate and engage. I think you helped the team connect, and were able to play many roles at once: mentor, tech savant, critical dissenter, ally, and co-writer.
(Project Coordinator, equity curriculum writing team, 2016)
This has been an intense journey for me, as I reflected on being stretched outside my comfort zone. Thanks to... [Vera's] prodding I did it and now I can't wait to try some of today's bag of tricks in my June placement. I learned far more than I could ever have imagined." (email from a Teacher Candidate, 2011)
