Although Broten seems to enjoy accusing public educators of threatening to strike over wage freezes, she fails to provide the actual facts. No teacher I have spoken to is opposed to a temporary wage freeze during difficult economic times, nor is anyone interested in beginning the school year with a strike. On the other hand, my colleagues and I will not accept strips to our benefits that our predecessors fought long and hard for, not will we stand down while the government imposes changes to our working conditions that will negatively affect students in classrooms.
If you are not a teacher, I encourage you to chat with one to get more information about what's really going on. The media tends to share limited information, and our education minister's misleading press-releases and interviews are not helping!
