Her undaunted desire to participate and to learn is an inspiration!
Turns out there are a number of important positions in middle school: With everything from lunch bin runners to clipboard monitors, classroom jobs completed by students are essential to making the rotary system run smoothly and a critical factor in saving the homeroom teacher from having a nervous breakdown.
In an attempt to get to know my homeroom class a little better, I assigned some homework the first week: Write a letter of application for one or more jobs you may be interested in. For those not interested in a job, a letter of declination was to be written. I wanted to assess the students' handwriting or typing skills, organizational style (if any) and general understanding.
It was a humorous and revealing operation!
Several students enthusiastically applied for jobs...
Despite the supremely abundant lack of time, I am tremendously enjoying my class so far!
