Pilottraining.ca - love this Canadian flight school website, with many relevant articles. This links to one of my current favourites, about why pilots choose to learn!
Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture - our family recently started volunteering with a refugee claimant through CCVT. After reading Marina's Nemat's Prisoner of Tehran, we felt compelled.
Weebly - an amazingly intuitive, web-based program I used to design this website and several others.
I have lived in Toronto my whole life. Although I’ve enjoyably travelled somewhat across Canada, South America, the Caribbean and Europe, I still find “there’s no place like home”! Whether you are new to Toronto, just visiting, or want to discover something novel, I invite you to visit one or more of my favourite places listed below:
Like Indian food? Me too! This fabulous little restaurant is located in Mimico, on Lakeshore Blvd west, and serves up some great vegetarian dishes, spiced to order.
After your Indian lunch or before dinner, take a walk along Lake Ontario through the Butterfly Habitat. This lovely outdoor sanctuary is located near the mouth of the Humber river, at the foot of Park Lawn Ave.
Also along the Lakeshore is Birds and Beans, a local gem feature fair trade, bird-friendly, organic coffee and other treats. Stop by on a Sunday afternoon and head upstairs for their Jazz Jam.
The world famous Cheese Boutique is a MUST VISIT for gourmet food lovers. You can buy any kind of cheese here, aged to perfection in-store in their cheese cave vault. The cheese boutique also features a lovely wine shop to compliment your culinary purchases.
The 360 at the CN Tower is a dining experience to remember. Advance reservations will cover your ticket up the elevator to this unique rotating restaurant at the top of Toronto.
If you are a woman in need of a bra, you MUST visit Secrets from your Sister, a fabulous store on Bloor, near Bathurst. A host of women will surround you with their wisdom as you are professionally fitted for a bra, then counselled on which style might be best suited to your style and budget.
New mother, or shopping for a baby shower? Diaper-eez in Bloor-West village offers some delightful treasures for the under-five crowd. The owner is extremely knowledgeable, and can tell you everything you need to know about cloth diapering, as well as her many other fine products. If you are shopping for multiples, be sure to ask for the twins discount.
The Toronto Islands (NOT Centreville) are absolutely my FAVOURTE place to visit!!! Take the go-train to Union station and walk down to the ferry docks for the short ride across to Ward’s Island or Hanlan’s point. You can enjoy a delicious lunch at the Rectory Café on Ward’s Island, or bath “au natural” at the nude beach on Hanlan’s. If you must, stop at Centre Island for some kiddie rides and amusement park fun.
Drummers and world music enthusiasts alike will delight in the treasures for sale at Soul Drums in North York. This resource/retail centre also offers clinics and private lessons for those who want to get in the know about hand or kit drumming.
Hart House is where I spent many hours of my formative university years. It was here that I played with the Symphonic Band, Orchestra and Jazz Band, as well as getting my Committee and Board experience through the decades-old committee structure of the house. Art, music, good food, architecture, a swimming pool, a theatre, indoor track, a chapel for quiet reflection… Hart House is home to all! Be sure to enjoy lunch at the Gallery Grill if you can.
