Animal Rescue and Community Literacy
A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of each Loki book supports animal rescue work and community literacy initiatives in Canada and Mexico.
This story is based on true events that happened in Mexico in 2024 - 2025. The author and her wife volunteer with two animal rescue organizations in the Jaltemba Bay area, about an hour north of Puerto Vallarta. On March 30, 2025, they went to an adoption fair in La Penita, where they met Loki, who had come with several other dogs from a shelter in Las Varas – “Paws of Love”. They fostered Loki, hoping to find her a permanent home before they had to leave Mexico and head back to Canada. (You’ll have to read the next book in the series to find out what happened!)
A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of the Loki books are donated to various community projects, including Jaltemba Bay Animal Resources (JBAR), who work in partnership with shelters like the one in Las Varas, to rescue and support animals, and The Hilltop Refugio (JEEP), the largest bricks and mortar shelter in the area.
Community Literacy initiatives like maintaining little free libraries, providing resources and transportation for after school programs, and other projects are also supported.
