Anyway, as I walked along the beach towards our PEI home, I realisd that I was walking the "same way" I walked each morning at home in Toronto. Specifically, I was walking with the ocean on my left, the land to my right. In Toronto, I often take my morning walk by Lake Ontario with our dog, and as I walk home along the lakefront, the water is on my left, too. Interestingly, though, I realised that in fact, the two scenarios had me walking in opposite directions: As I walk home along the beach in PEI, I am walking east. In Toronto, as I walk home along the Lake, I am walking west.
A strange thought occurred to me this evening as I was walking along the beach… (we had had the interesting and somewhat unique opportunity of dining with a former student – both Trevor and I had taught him in grade 3 and 4; he is now in grade 12!—and after dinner, our two families headed over to the “lighthouse beach” by car. Once there, I decided to walk home along the beach while the rest of the gang drove home.) Anyway, as I walked along the beach towards our PEI home, I realisd that I was walking the "same way" I walked each morning at home in Toronto. Specifically, I was walking with the ocean on my left, the land to my right. In Toronto, as I walk home along the Lake, I am walking west. I can't help but wonder if there is some strange symbolic force at work here, that each time I am in one place, I am drawn further from the other! Loving both in the moment in which I find myself there, I can't help but wonder... how do I ultimately choose?!
