Translating scripture into the language of the people has long been a strategy to bring the Word to others.
But what when the language of the people is other than the “written word”? Sometimes another access point may provide more effective entry for the un-churched.
I pondered the language of music this evening as I watched my drummer friend play enthusiastically my Christian friend’s arrangement of an older Hymn, “I have Decided” in the maniacal time signature of 15/8! The joy on drummer boy’s face was undeniable as God worked in his heart through the music.
I look forward to the day when this work surfaces to the conscious level, and my drummer pal’s friends can envelope him in brother and sisterhood as well as friendship!
