Case in point, my 8-year-old twin boys did the dishes for the first time tonight. Granted, it was more like water play that dishwashing per say, but all the dishes got some soap on them, most of them got rinsed, and they all got stacked in the drying rack. (We don’t have an electric dishwasher in our home.)
Sure, things tasted a little soapy when I got a glass of water from the kitchen later, after they were in bed and I was enjoying a little "me" time, but... there were no dirty dishes in the sink for me to deal with! :-)
Hey, they already walk the dog most mornings… with a little guidance and support, I am confident they will soon be cooking dinner, vacuuming the apt., and doing the laundry - I can hardly wait to become a woman of leisure with all the impending spare time.
