In an effort to foster their meta-cognitive abilities and increase their online/collaborative literacy (and -- I won't lie -- to gather some concrete data for learning skills comments on report cards!!!), my instructional coach and I developed the following self assessment checklist for students to use when considering their online work in small groups.

A hard copy also makes it easier to transport home and share with families; after an assessment meeting my coach and I attended yesterday, I determined to try to send home materials to be signed a little more often to keep families in the loop: A teacher at the meeting had commented that sometimes parents can be surprised at report card marks, because although we do lots and lots of assessment of conversations and observations in class, it is often only the "products" (and more specifically, tests!) that we tend to send home to parents.
