For several years, Trevor and I have talked about taking the boys to Germany to meet their mother’s side of the family. We’d both put a little aside each month, and this year’s March Break emerged as the right time for their first European visit.
Although we’ll only have about 7 days on the other side of the ocean, we hope to pack in a view of the Eiffel Tower and the Mona Lisa (it’s cheaper to stay in a hotel in Paris for two nights, then fly on to stay with my relatives in Berlin, than to go direct to Berlin through another German airport!), as well as introducing the boys to a portion of my maternal Grandmother’s side of the family, and visiting the castle in Eisenach where Martin Luther is said to have fought the devil with ink.
We’re also planning a visit with my mother’s childhood friends, who live in a suburb of Berlin, and with whom I am still in regular contact.

Past security inside Terminal 1 at YYZ, we encounter some “Kunscht”, which the boys immediately turn into a secret agent battleground, weaving in and out of the tall, dark columns while Trevor and I locate our boarding gate and try to find a shop that sells child-friendly activity books.
